Altar Guild

A volunteer group of the parish whose ministry is to care for the altar, vestments, vessels, and altar linens of the parish. Altar Guild members prepare the sanctuary for services, and clean up afterwards. Altar Guild members frequently supervise the decoration of the sanctuary of the parish with flowers, and prepare the flowers into smaller bouquets for distribution to parishioners after services. Contact Penny Ellien (pellien44@att.net) to offer your service to this group.

Lay Readers/Chalice Bearers/Acolytes

A lay reader is a member of the congregation who reads one of two passages from Holy Scripture (typically one Old Testament reading and one New Testament reading) during a service. A Chalice Bearer (also called a Lay Eucharistic Minister) is one who assists with distributing the Wine during Holy Communion. Any older youth or adult may become a lay reader or chalice bearer following training, and will be scheduled on a monthly rotation. It is an honor and solemn responsibility to present the sacred readings and distribute the Wine in the context of worship. If you would like to serve the parish in this way, contact Mary Ellen Gruendyke (maryellengruendyke@gmail.com).

Prayer Chain

The All Saints’ Prayer Chain provides access to people who believe in the power of prayer and who will pray for you, your family member, or friends in need. No need is too small. All you have to do is give the name of the individual or family that needs prayers. You don’t have to give a reason for the prayers. We believe that God knows what is needed. If you would like to be a member of the Prayer Chain and receive Prayer Chain bulletins, please e-mail Cathy Welborn at cwelborn614@gmail.com. We can always use more members. If you or someone you know needs prayers, please email Cathy at the same e-mail address and let her know, or enter the information on the Prayer Chain forms located on the narthex table.

The Prayer Chain also meets directly after the 10:00 service in the chapel area at the rear of the church, for in-person special prayers.

Sisters in Spirit

“Sisters in Spirit” is a book group for women who meet every Wednesday from 1 pm to 2:30 p.m. in the parish library. Our purpose is to read books of our choosing that will strengthen and deepen our faith, and enrich our prayer life and friendships. Our members contribute their suggestions for reading, and book selections are made by a majority vote. As of June 2018, the book currently being read by the group is Have a Little Faith, by Mitch Albom. This book with the line “Will you do my eulogy?” gives us something to think about!

We have a Spirit Fund that grows from a free will offering of $1.00 per week. We have been blessed to support many ministries from this fund. We were able to provide scholarships for children from Path of Life Shelter to attend Vacation Bible School. Most recently, we sent a donation to the Episcopal Relief Fund earmarked for hurricane relief.

We are also a social group and enjoy each other’s company. We honor every member’s birthday and join in affirming God’s blessing that we are able to celebrate old friends and make new ones. When we finish a book, we celebrate its close and the beginning of another over lunch at a local restaurant. Please join us. You will receive a warm welcome!

We hope you'll stay in touch.
